About the Organisation

Dear reader,

There are two entrances to the National Library of Estonia: the first one can be found at Tõnismägi 2 in Tallinn, the other one, www.rahvusraamatukogu.ee, you have just opened.

Both of them serve to support the National Library in fulfilling its role as a:

national library that collects, preserves, and provides access to publications published in Estonia or concerning Estonia, registers statistics on Estonia’s national bibliography and print production, and issues international standard numbers;

parliamentary library that provides information services to the Riigikogu and other constitutional institutions;

research library that provides access to the information necessary for conducting research in the humanities and social sciences;

development centre for librarianship that co-ordinates the establishment of industry standards, organises in-service training, and participates in terminology work;

cultural centre that invites you to visit exhibitions and theatre performances and attend various events.

Our mission is to preserve and promote Estonian cultural heritage and to act as a bridge between knowledge and people.

Our vision is to be a next-generation library and to act as an innovator in the world of librarianship through an open, inspiring, and inclusive operating environment.

We store knowledge to share it with you!

Janne Andresoo,
Director General of the National Library of Estonia
