The National Library of Estonia is a member of the International Internet Preservation Consortium
31.01.2012
Since the beginning of this year the National Library of Estonia has been a member of the International Internet Preservation Consortium (IIPC). The Consortium, which was created in 2003, consists of 42 memory and research institutions from 29 states, among them all the important Web archives of the world. The main goal of the IIPC is to support the creation and use of common standards, practice and software that will ensure the preservation of information from the Internet for future generations. As an IIPC member, we can ask the world’s leading Web archiving experts for advice and participate in training and workshops (participation fee for IIPC members is covered by the Consortium). The mailing lists and forums will provide an opportunity to be currently informed about the development in this field, new activities and software development projects.
Together with at least one other Consortium member we can initiate a software development or other necessary for us project and apply to the IIPC for its funding. The participation in working groups will enable us to be engaged also in further developing the software we use or creating international standards.
