Manor schools – the shining pearls

20.02.2012

On Tuesday, 21 February at 17 an exhibition „Manor schools – the shining pearls“ compiled by the Royal Norwegian Embassy will be opened in the Foyer Gallery of the National Libarary.

In the heyday of the manors there were over 1200 main manors all over Estonia and their fabulous mansions still form one of the most valuable parts of the Estonian cultural heritage.

The grants enabled to carry out restoration works in altogether eleven manor schools - Kaagvere, Kiltsi, Koigi, Kõpu, Lahmuse, Laupa, Olustvere, Puurmani, Rogosi, Vasta and Väätsa schools.

In Kiltsi, Koigi, Kõpu, Laupa, Puurmani and Väätsa there were large-scale works in the main mansions, while in others side-buildings or wings were renovated. The renovated manor buildings offer schools a valuable study environment to the pupils that supports their development. At the same time the manor schools function as manyfold centers of community life.

The exhibition will give in words and pictures a glimpse to this large undertaking, which has resulted in making a valuable part of the Estonian cultural heritage shine again.

The exhibition will be opened by Ambassador of Norway Lise Kleven Grevstad and will be open until 17 March.

You are welcome!
