Quo vadis, ELA - Katre Riisalu
In May this year, an extended session of the ELA Board was held to discuss the present day and future of the Estonian Librarians’ Association and how to make the Association more effective and appealing. In June the Board came together again and on the ground of the views exchanged during the previous discussion accentuated the most essential for ELA topics and activities, which among other things include the updating of the homepage and the creation of a youth section.

TUT Library moved into new premises - Taimi Nurmiste
In June this year, the builders handed over the new building of the Tallinn University of Technology Library to the Library. The article gives an overview of the move process through the eyes of the library employees who were engaged in moving in. The librarians find this architecturally unique building attractive and hope that its new environment will allow to offer innovative services that are in compliance with the needs and expectations of readers.

A small special library in the Kadriorg Park - Ene Tamsalu
In July 2006, on the 289 th birthday of the Kadriorg Park, a small special park library opened its doors. The foundation of the library was encouraged by a special library collection bequeathed to the Kadriorg Park by the landscape architect, Professor Tuula Maria Merivuori (1947-2000). The collection of the library is available at www.lugeja.ee

New cost accounting methods for the assessment of the effectiveness of library and information services - Kate-Riin Kont
The author focuses on the introduction and implementation opportunities of the methodologies of activity based costing and time-driven activity based costing in managing library and information services.
Estonian Foundations as supporters of publishing activities - Liina Kukkur
The Estonian Cultural Endowment, the Tartu Cultural Capital, the Estonian National Culture Foundation, and the Open Estonia Foundation may be considered the greatest and indispensable supporters of Estonian culture, as through the allocated scholarships they finance the publication of books essential for Estonian culture. The article analyses the activities of these foundations in the role of the supporters of publishing in the years 2004-2007.
Application opportunities for teamwork. IV - Merike Poljakov
The fourth and at the same time the last part of the multipart article provides an overview of the development of teamwork skills trough training. Also, conclusions from the research are drawn and recommendations for the application of teamwork in Estonian libraries are given.

An overview of the tightened during the last years collaboration between the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) and the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) with the aim of creating a new global library statistics database, developing methods for performance measurement and preparing library standards.

The symbol of Nice is a square-head library - Külli Kaunissaar
An overview of the realisation of a French enthusiastic architectural idea – the square-head City Library of Nice (BMVR – Bibliothéque Municipale à Vocation Régionale – Nice). The cube holds administration offices while the storage and reading rooms are located in the joint cultural complex – in a building between the Square Head and the Museum of Modern Art. The whole complex was erected on the river, which runs through the city under the buildings and the road, providing the fountains spread over the square and by the side of the cultural complex with water.
This library constitutes an integrated system with other city libraries and music collections (in all 11) and in commemoration of the writer and journalist Louis Nucera (1928-2000), who was born in Nice, bears his name - la bibliothéque Louis Nucéra.

Liina Gross completed the master programme at the Department of Information Studies at the University of Tallinn in 2005. From 1998 to 2002 she worked at the National Library of Estonia. She was also employed at the Office for Publications of the European Union in Luxemburg. By now for almost five years Liina has lived in Frankfurt in Germany, where she works at the European Central Bank Library.

A few words about bibelots - Mait Talts
Bibelots –miniature, dwarf, thumb, or lilliputian books – are unique carriers of culture, the intentional size of which has directly effected both their content and technical completion. Historically, bibelots were for book makers the means for demonstrating their professional skills; and even nowadays it is also very often the same. The article gives an overview of the history of world and Estonian bibelots and discusses the contemporary Estonian bibelots and the tiniest books found in Estonia.

A golden book with a golden content - Maare Kümnik
A book review of the publication „Varamu lummuses” (Fascinated by the Treasures) (2009), which was dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Estonian Literary Museum. The reviewer writes that „in a popular style and a simple and understandable Estonian language, the book presents the history of the Archival Library, the work and activities of its dedicated people, and the intellectual treasures stored there”.

Seminar of rural libraries in Harju County - Maris Paas
From June 29 to July 1, the XVIII ELA summer camp for the section of rural libraries was held at Kurtna in Harju County. The pervasive theme of the seminar was the „Future of Rural Libraries at the Economically Tough Time” and also other library-related issues were discussed.

A winter seminar for research libraries was held at Kääriku on 4-5 March. This year the topics related to the development of e-library were under discussion.
NEWS
The Information Sciences Reading Room belongs to all of us – Kai Idarand
In 2008, reader satisfaction with the collections and services of the Information Sciences Reading Room was measured. Fifty eight completed questionnaires in all were collected in the Reading Room and at various library and professional training events. The results of the survey reveal that the use of specialised information on the example of the Information Sciences Reading Room is satisfactory.
E-book project has been launched – Õnne Mets
An overview of the service E-books on Demand (EOD) started in the National Library of Estonia in May. This service was jointly created by 13 European libraries with the objective to make on the reader’s request digitally available out of copyright books.
EuropeanaTravel will take readers on a digital journey- Toomas Schvak
Started on 1 May 2009, the EuropeanaTravel project focuses on the content of collections related to travelling, tourism, migration and local history, involving 17 national and university libraries of Europe. In the framework of this project, the National Library of Estonia intends to digitise 8000 postcards issued before World War II that illustrate the change of cultural and architectural monuments and also several settlements in the course of time.
