Development Centre for Librarianship
The National Library of Estonia acts as a development centre for librarianship, conducting professional research and development activities in cooperation with other libraries and institutions on both national and international level.
Within the competence of the National Library as a development centre for librarianship, are placed library statistics, standardisation of librarianship, terminology work and the mediation of data on information sciences. One of the important goals is the organisation of professional training on the level that will allow the knowledge and skills obtained by Estonian librarians to meet the requirements of the traditional as well as e-library.
The strategic goals set in the sphere of services provided to the library network include the development of the search portal of the National Library into the information portal of Estonian libraries and the development of the digital archive DIGAR into the archives of Estonian printed cultural heritage.
