The National Library of Estonia performs the functions of the national library, parliament library, and specialized library of humanities and social sciences.

The library is located in Tallinn, at Tõnismägi 2, in a building designed especially for the library in the years 1985 – 1993. The architecture is by Raine Karp and interior design by Sulev Vahtra. The 8-storey building, with two floors below ground level, is the largest library in the Baltic States, with 24 reading rooms accommodating 900 readers, conference hall, theatre hall and numerous exhibition grounds. The library’s stacks cover 13206 square meters and can contain up to 5 million publications.
